Welcome to students of the English Honors Program (EHP) at Lehman College! This is an online edition of our biannual Honors Newsletter. Please be sure to click in and read through each section so as not to miss anything. It’s been a busy academic semester for us all, so let’s begin with our news. Celebrate! The English Honors Program is thriving. We currently have 31 students and can always use more; advertise the EHP to fellow English majors and in your English classes! The current EHP members are:
Frances Angel Mindanao
Fatou Ndeye Coundol
We'd also like to welcome some of our newest members who joined the EHP this past year. Please welcome them when you see them in the Honors Room and around the halls of Carman:
Congratulations to our seniors who just completed the senior theses this December! We look forward to celebrating your accomplishments at the EHP Presentation & Ceremony on Wednesday, May 2, 2018. We also offer shout outs to Melissa Ruiz, Class of 2018, who won a Gilman Scholarship and studied abroad in Japan her junior year to pursue language studies for her Japanese minor, and Sharon Lee, Class of 2019, won first prize in the CUNY-Wide AAARI Virtue Essay Contest. Sharon was featured on the Lehman Website and in the Queens Chronicle newspaper. Her winning essay can be read here.
Submit your work to the English Department Writing Contest! All work should be submitted online using our Submittable entry forms by February 28, 2018.
Prof. Moy, Director of the EHP, manages recruitment and entry for the Honors Program. Her door is open on Monday and Wednesday afternoons for consultation and chatting with EHP students about any subjects. Stop by to discuss course advisement, your thesis progress, recommendation requests, or even research and citation help. Any questions from alumni can also be directed to Prof. Moy (Carman 392).
Prof. Loscocco, the English Department Chair teaches the Honors Colloquium on Thursday evenings. Please direct any questions about the thesis, e-Portfolios, and mentors to Prof. Loscocco (Carman 301).
The EHP collaborates with the Beyond the Bachelors program, which offers various day-long and week-longbooster courses throughout the year to prepare students for prestigious fellowships, graduate study, internships, and careers. Beyond the Bachelors is run by Prof. Augustine, a Lehman graduate and EHP alum herself.
Together, Professor Moy, Professor Loscocco, and Professor Augustine are working as a team to help support you through the undergraduate English Honors major, the completion of the thesis, and plans for beyond graduation.
